The Odisha government has intensified action against the illegal hoarding and black marketing of petrol and diesel across the state. In a major crackdown, officials from the Supply Department conducted raids at multiple locations around Bhubaneswar and seized 505 litres of illegally stored diesel.

The raids were carried out on May 16, 2026, following directions issued by the state government to prevent fuel black marketing amid recent concerns over fuel availability.

Raids Conducted in Bhubaneswar Outskirts

Under the direction of Khordha Collector Amrit Ruturaj, a joint enforcement team led by the Khordha District Supply Office carried out inspections in several areas of Bhubaneswar outskirts.

The raid team included District Supply Officer Gyanendra Mishra, Assistant Supply Officer Sunita Behera, Balianta Supply Inspector Alakarani Mallik, and Balipatna Supply Inspector Netrananda Behera.

Officials conducted inspections at several petrol pumps and suspected illegal fuel storage centres operating in and around Bhubaneswar.

505 Litres of Diesel Seized

During the raids, authorities seized 505 litres of illegally stored diesel from six individuals identified as Niranjan Nayak, Bulu Pradhan, Puran Pradhan, Sushant Kumar Choudhury, Tapan Kumar Sahu, and Ajay Sahu.

Officials said the accused did not possess valid distributor licences or mandatory fire safety certificates required for storing and selling fuel.

Diesel Allegedly Sold at Inflated Prices

According to the Supply Department, the accused were allegedly selling diesel illegally in crowded public areas at highly inflated prices of Rs 140 per litre with the intention of making excessive profit.

During the operation, officials also seized equipment used for fuel distribution, including containers, pipes, and measuring instruments.

The Odisha government has warned that strict action will continue against individuals involved in illegal fuel hoarding and black marketing activities across the state.
