On April 6, districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Ganjam, and Gajapati are likely to experience rain with lightning and thunder. Wind speeds in these areas may reach 40–50 kmph.

Additionally, districts such as Puri, Khordha, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nayagarh, Nabarangpur, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, and Angul may witness rainfall with gusty winds of 30–40 kmph. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow warning for these regions.

Yellow Warning for Southern Districts
A separate yellow warning has been issued for five districts—Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Malkangiri, and Koraput—forecasting light rain accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph). The weather department predicts rainfall activity to continue until April 7.

Slight Relief from Heat Expected
In the next 24 hours, rainfall may bring slight relief from the prevailing heat, with temperatures expected to drop by 2–3°C. However, no significant change in temperature is anticipated immediately.

Day Temperatures Cross 40°C in Several Cities
Despite the expected rain, temperatures have been on the rise. On Friday, at least nine cities in Odisha recorded temperatures above 40°C. Jharsuguda recorded the highest at 41.6°C, followed by Angul (40.7°C), Titlagarh and Bhadrak (40.5°C), Hirakud (40.4°C), and Balangir (40.3°C). Cities like Sambalpur, Paralakhemundi, and Talcher also touched the 40°C mark.

High Humidity Adds to Discomfort
Coastal districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, and Jagatsinghpur experienced intense heat and humidity, leading to uncomfortable weather conditions. Thunderstorms with gusty winds were also reported in several areas during the afternoon.

The state capital Bhubaneswar and nearby areas are expected to witness partly cloudy skies tomorrow. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 39°C, while the minimum temperature may remain near 26°C.

While no major change is expected in the next 24 hours, day temperatures may gradually decrease by 2–3°C in the following days due to increased thunderstorm activity.

Severe Storm Hits Multiple Districts

Several parts of Odisha witnessed severe Kalbaisakhi storms on Friday, causing widespread damage in districts including Khordha, Puri, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj. The storm disrupted normal life, uprooting trees and damaging infrastructure across affected regions.

One Fatality Reported in Mayurbhanj

A tragic incident was reported from Kuliana in Mayurbhanj district, where a man identified as Ram Das Hansda lost his life after being struck by a falling tree branch during the storm.

Prolonged Storm in Khordha’s Tangi Block

In Khordha’s Tangi block, the Kalbaisakhi storm lasted for nearly three hours, causing extensive damage. Strong winds uprooted several trees, bringing traffic and daily activities to a standstill in the region.

The weather department has also forecast thunderstorms with lightning in Mayurbhanj, Koraput, and Malkangiri on the 29th, and in districts like Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, and Rayagada on the 30th.
