The Congress party held a crucial meeting in Delhi today to accelerate its ongoing organisational restructuring drive. Party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and KC Venugopal led the high-level discussions, which focused on learning from past mistakes and ensuring transparent leadership appointments in the states.

Madhya Pradesh Irregularities Under Spotlight

Sources revealed that the central leadership expressed dissatisfaction with the Madhya Pradesh unit, particularly regarding the recent appointment of district presidents. In as many as 14–15 districts, leaders were appointed from outside the region, many carrying questionable reputations. The high command stressed that such missteps must be avoided in the future.

Rahul Gandhi Calls for Transparency

Rahul Gandhi emphasised that transparency must be the foundation for selecting district presidents. He urged leaders to ensure that the Madhya Pradesh situation does not recur in other states. According to him, only committed and capable leaders at the grassroots can strengthen the party’s organisational fabric.

Odisha Under Organisational Reorganisation Drive

As part of the restructuring plan, Congress has appointed 35 observers for Odisha. Beginning September 2, these observers will interact with block-level leaders to identify suitable district president candidates. Each observer will recommend six names to the AICC, focusing on individuals with proven organisational skills, loyalty to the party, and an unblemished public image.

AICC Stresses Impartiality

The AICC leadership has made it clear that observers must remain impartial and resist pressure during candidate selection. This initiative reflects the Congress high command’s commitment to building a strong, transparent, and credible organisation as it prepares for upcoming electoral challenges.
