Monsoon Advance Delayed in Several States

The progress of the southwest monsoon across India has slowed down over the past few days. Although the monsoon had reached 22 states by June 24, its movement has weakened during the last five days, delaying its arrival in several parts of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon is expected to cover the remaining parts of the country by July 5. Meanwhile, pre-monsoon rainfall continues in several areas of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi.

Heavy Rain Alert Issued in Several Regions

The weather department has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Assam, Meghalaya, southwestern West Bengal and Sikkim.

The IMD has advised people in these regions to remain alert as continuous rainfall may lead to waterlogging, flooding and disruptions in normal life.

Rain-Related Accidents Reported

Continuous rainfall has already caused several incidents across different states.

In Sendhwa area of Madhya Pradesh, a tractor and its driver were swept away while attempting to cross a bridge submerged in floodwaters. The driver is still reported missing, and search operations are underway.

In Bemetara district of Chhattisgarh, two girls died after a mud house wall collapsed due to heavy rain. The incident occurred as the structure weakened following continuous rainfall.

Another rain-related tragedy was reported from Sukma, where a young man lost his life after being struck by lightning. Four others were injured in the incident.

Rescue Operations Underway

Authorities in affected areas have launched rescue and relief operations. Officials are monitoring vulnerable locations and providing assistance to people impacted by heavy rainfall and weather-related incidents.

The IMD has urged citizens to stay cautious as several parts of the country continue to experience intense rainfall activity during the ongoing monsoon season.
