A cyclonic circulation that developed over the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a low-pressure area, potentially affecting several districts across the state.</p>
<h3 data-start="542" data-end="588"><strong data-start="546" data-end="588">Cyclonic System Forms in Bay of Bengal</strong></h3>
<p data-start="590" data-end="925">On Sunday, July 20, a cyclonic circulation took shape over the West-Central and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal. The system has already brought steady rainfall to southern districts of Odisha and is expected to further intensify, triggering widespread weather activity. IMD predicts the formation of a low-pressure system by July 24.</p>
<h3 data-start="932" data-end="978"><strong data-start="936" data-end="978">Yellow Warning Issued for 19 Districts</strong></h3>
<p data-start="980" data-end="1093">In response to the developing conditions, IMD has issued a <strong data-start="1039" data-end="1057">yellow warning</strong> across <strong data-start="1065" data-end="1081">19 districts</strong>, including:</p>
<ul data-start="1094" data-end="1376">
<li data-start="1094" data-end="1216">
<p data-start="1096" data-end="1216"><strong data-start="1096" data-end="1122">South &amp; Western Odisha</strong>: Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Bolangir, Boudh</p>
</li>
<li data-start="1217" data-end="1304">
<p data-start="1219" data-end="1304"><strong data-start="1219" data-end="1237">Western Odisha</strong>: Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Subarnapur</p>
</li>
<li data-start="1305" data-end="1376">
<p data-start="1307" data-end="1376"><strong data-start="1307" data-end="1336">Central &amp; Northern Odisha</strong>: Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj</p>
</li>
</ul>
<p data-start="1378" data-end="1543">The warning highlights the likelihood of <strong data-start="1419" data-end="1437">heavy rainfall</strong>, <strong data-start="1439" data-end="1456">thunderstorms</strong>, and <strong data-start="1462" data-end="1477">gusty winds</strong> in the range of 30–40 kmph in these areas over the next 24 hours.</p>
<h3 data-start="1550" data-end="1603"><strong data-start="1554" data-end="1603">Rainfall Intensity to Peak Between July 23–25</strong></h3>
<p data-start="1605" data-end="1907">According to IMD&#8217;s extended outlook, rainfall will gradually intensify from the afternoon of <strong data-start="1698" data-end="1709">July 22</strong>, with <strong data-start="1716" data-end="1744">heavy to very heavy rain</strong> expected between <strong data-start="1762" data-end="1785">July 23 and July 25</strong>. The districts of <strong data-start="1804" data-end="1842">Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Balasore</strong> are expected to bear the brunt of the impact during this period.</p>
<p data-start="1909" data-end="2147">Reports from social media and local weather platforms have already indicated rising water levels in parts of southern Odisha, raising fears of <strong data-start="2052" data-end="2074">localized flooding</strong>, <strong data-start="2076" data-end="2092">waterlogging</strong>, and disruption in transportation and public services.</p>
<h3 data-start="2154" data-end="2201"><strong data-start="2158" data-end="2201">Flood Risks and Administrative Concerns</strong></h3>
<p data-start="2203" data-end="2477">As heavy rain continues across multiple districts, South Odisha remains particularly vulnerable to <strong data-start="2302" data-end="2318">flash floods</strong>, <strong data-start="2320" data-end="2334">landslides</strong>, and <strong data-start="2340" data-end="2366">interrupted daily life</strong>. With over-saturated soil and slow drainage in rural belts, low-lying areas could face significant challenges.</p>
<p data-start="2479" data-end="2801">The IMD has urged district administrations to stay alert and prepare for possible <strong data-start="2561" data-end="2597">evacuation or emergency measures</strong> should the situation worsen. The alert comes at a time when the state is already navigating through <strong data-start="2698" data-end="2718">political unrest</strong> and <strong data-start="2723" data-end="2750">educational disruptions</strong>, making administrative response even more crucial.</p>
<h3 data-start="2808" data-end="2849"><strong data-start="2812" data-end="2849">Watch Continues as System Evolves</strong></h3>
<p data-start="2851" data-end="3124">Meteorologists are closely monitoring the system’s evolution, and further updates will be issued if the depression strengthens or shifts. Citizens have been advised to <strong data-start="3019" data-end="3047">avoid unnecessary travel</strong>, <strong data-start="3049" data-end="3079">stay indoors during storms</strong>, and monitor <strong data-start="3093" data-end="3123">official weather bulletins</strong>.</p>
<p data-start="3126" data-end="3219">The next 72 hours are expected to be critical for Odisha’s weather pattern and public safety.</p>
