Amid growing concerns over the availability of cooking gas across the country, the Union government held a high-level review meeting to ensure smooth supply and distribution of LPG. The virtual meeting was jointly chaired by senior officials from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and the Department of Consumer Affairs, with participation from principal secretaries of Food Supply and Consumer Welfare departments from all states.

Odisha Officials Participate in Meeting

The meeting was attended by Sanjay Kumar Singh and other senior officials of the department from Odisha. The discussion was held from the conference hall of the Works Department where state authorities joined the virtual session to review the LPG supply situation and measures required to ensure proper distribution.

Officials stressed the need for transparency in the distribution of LPG cylinders and emphasized coordinated efforts between the Centre and states to maintain uninterrupted supply.

Focus on Preventing Black Marketing

During the meeting, strict instructions were issued to prevent black marketing and illegal storage of LPG cylinders. Authorities were directed to strengthen monitoring mechanisms and ensure that booking and delivery processes are carried out through authorized systems to avoid irregularities.

Special emphasis was placed on ensuring that consumers receive cylinders through proper booking channels and that distributors follow government guidelines in delivery operations.

Steps to Manage Demand and Supply

Officials also discussed the rising number of LPG bookings, which has slowed down server speeds in some regions due to high demand. Technical teams are currently working to enhance server capacity to ensure smoother booking services for consumers.

In addition, in emergency situations, only 20 percent of the usual commercial LPG supply will be provided to manage domestic demand effectively.

Enforcement Measures Across Districts

To curb illegal hoarding and unauthorized storage of LPG cylinders, enforcement squads have been deployed at district levels across states. These teams are closely monitoring distribution points and taking strict action against individuals involved in black marketing.

Authorities said these steps are part of a broader effort to maintain transparency and ensure that LPG cylinders reach genuine consumers.

Public Asked Not to Panic

Officials also appealed to the public not to panic over LPG availability. The government assured that adequate steps are being taken to maintain steady supply and improve distribution systems across both urban and rural areas.
