Amid rising household cooking gas expenses, the Goa Government has announced a special scheme aimed at providing financial relief to eligible LPG consumers. Under the scheme, beneficiaries will receive financial assistance for three LPG cylinders every year, with around ₹3,000 to be transferred directly to their bank accounts.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced the scheme, stating that eligible beneficiaries will have to submit an application form to avail themselves of the benefit.

According to the information available, application forms will be made available at panchayat offices and offices of Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from September 5. The process of transferring ₹3,000 to the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries is scheduled to begin from September 9.

Who Will Be Eligible?

The benefit will not be available to all LPG consumers in Goa. The scheme is specifically meant for eligible local residents of the state.

People who have migrated from other states and are currently residing in Goa will not be eligible for the benefit, according to the details announced by the Chief Minister.

Scheme Linked to 2022 Poll Promise

The scheme is not entirely new. During the 2022 Goa Assembly elections, a promise was made to provide three free LPG cylinders every year. The state government has now moved to implement that promise through a financial assistance scheme.

Instead of directly providing cylinders free of cost, eligible beneficiaries will receive financial assistance of approximately ₹3,000 annually, which will be transferred directly into their bank accounts.

The initiative is expected to provide some relief to eligible households struggling with the rising cost of cooking gas. However, beneficiaries will need to complete the application process and meet the eligibility requirements prescribed by the government.

More details regarding the required documents, eligibility conditions and the application procedure are expected to be clarified by the state government through the concerned panchayats and MLA offices.
