<p data-start="181" data-end="478">The Odisha Legislative Assembly has remained paralysed for three consecutive days, with uproarious protests by the opposition derailing proceedings. Instead of deliberations on public issues, the truncated monsoon session has turned into a battleground of slogans, adjournments, and disruptions.</p>
<p data-start="480" data-end="645">Of the <strong data-start="487" data-end="519">seven scheduled working days</strong>, three have already been “washed out,” leaving just four days for discussions on key matters of governance and development.</p>
<h3 data-start="647" data-end="695">Opposition Uproar Over Fertiliser Shortage</h3>
<p data-start="696" data-end="960">Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLAs have been at the forefront of the protests, alleging a severe <strong data-start="785" data-end="808">fertiliser shortage</strong> that is hitting farmers across the state. They stormed into the well of the House with placards, shouting slogans, and forcing repeated adjournments.</p>
<p data-start="962" data-end="1183">On Friday, the Assembly could function for only <strong data-start="1010" data-end="1033">15 minutes in total</strong>. The morning session ended abruptly after chaos broke out, and the post-lunch sitting lasted just a few minutes before being adjourned till Monday.</p>
<h3 data-start="1185" data-end="1225">Democratic Functioning in Question</h3>
<p data-start="1226" data-end="1426">The repeated stalemates have raised grave concerns. A senior legislator, speaking anonymously, remarked, <em data-start="1331" data-end="1424">“Even the Assembly, with its very core of discussing people’s problems, is being defeated.”</em></p>
<p data-start="1428" data-end="1606">So far, neither <strong data-start="1444" data-end="1461">Question Hour</strong> nor <strong data-start="1466" data-end="1479">Zero Hour</strong> has been conducted without disruption, turning the Assembly into a stage of confrontation rather than constructive dialogue.</p>
<h3 data-start="1608" data-end="1654">BJP Slams BJD’s “Deliberate Disruptions”</h3>
<p data-start="1655" data-end="2107">Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs have accused the BJD of <strong data-start="1720" data-end="1758">intentionally stalling proceedings</strong>. BJP legislator Santosh Khatua directly attacked the opposition’s tactics, saying:<br data-start="1841" data-end="1844" /><em data-start="1844" data-end="2105">“They are not only disrupting the House but also paralysing governance. Is this a policy to kill farmers? With farmer registrations up by 25% and paddy harvest projections at 100 lakh metric tonnes, Odisha is heading towards self-sufficiency, not starvation.”</em></p>
<h3 data-start="2109" data-end="2140">BJD Escalates to Governor</h3>
<p data-start="2141" data-end="2493">Meanwhile, the BJD has escalated the matter beyond the Assembly. Its leaders marched to <strong data-start="2229" data-end="2243">Raj Bhavan</strong> to submit a memorandum to Governor Raghubar Das, urging him to intervene and resolve the fertiliser crisis. The move highlights the widening gulf between the ruling and opposition benches, with both sides trading charges of <strong data-start="2468" data-end="2490">governance failure</strong>.</p>
<h3 data-start="2495" data-end="2536">Public Concerns Over Wasted Session</h3>
<p data-start="2537" data-end="2821">With the monsoon session already half lost, pressing agendas such as <strong data-start="2606" data-end="2675">flood relief, agricultural distress, and developmental programmes</strong> remain unaddressed. Citizens and stakeholders now worry that <strong data-start="2737" data-end="2769">public money is being wasted</strong> on repeated adjournments and political theatrics.</p>
<p data-start="2823" data-end="2947">The big question remains: <strong data-start="2849" data-end="2945">Will Monday bring order to Odisha’s highest democratic forum—or yet another day of disorder?</strong></p>

<p data-start="201" data-end="592">The Odisha government, along with the central authorities, has repeatedly assured citizens of safe and clean drinking water under the ambitious “Drink from Tap” initiative. The slogan <strong data-start="385" data-end="404">“Water is Life”</strong> echoes in official statements, but for residents, these promises remain largely on paper. Despite successive announcements, citizens still wait for a reliable supply of clean tap water.</p>
<p data-start="201" data-end="592"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class=" wp-image-5125 aligncenter" src="https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Drinking-Water-Scarcity-in-Odisha-300x194.jpg" alt="" width="598" height="387" srcset="https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Drinking-Water-Scarcity-in-Odisha-300x194.jpg 300w, https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Drinking-Water-Scarcity-in-Odisha-1024x664.jpg 1024w, https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Drinking-Water-Scarcity-in-Odisha-768x498.jpg 768w, https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Drinking-Water-Scarcity-in-Odisha-210x136.jpg 210w, https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Drinking-Water-Scarcity-in-Odisha.jpg 1069w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 598px) 100vw, 598px" /></p>
<h2 data-start="594" data-end="627">Half of Odisha Still Thirsty</h2>
<p data-start="629" data-end="875">Even after the summer season ended and monsoon passed, many districts remain desperate for clean drinking water. The “Drink from Tap” project, intended to provide 24-hour potable water to every household, has not been operational in most areas.</p>
<p data-start="877" data-end="1153">From <strong data-start="882" data-end="919">Champua and Anandpur in Kendujhar</strong>, <strong data-start="921" data-end="960">Brahmapur and Hinjilikatu in Ganjam</strong>, to <strong data-start="965" data-end="1014">Rairangpur, Baripada, and Udala in Mayurbhanj</strong>, the project has failed to deliver. Even in cities like <strong data-start="1071" data-end="1113">Bhubaneswar, Puri, Cuttack, and Jatani</strong>, the scheme has not met expectations.</p>
<p data-start="877" data-end="1153"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class=" wp-image-5126 aligncenter" src="https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Watco-Issue-300x194.jpg" alt="" width="583" height="377" srcset="https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Watco-Issue-300x194.jpg 300w, https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Watco-Issue-1024x661.jpg 1024w, https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Watco-Issue-768x496.jpg 768w, https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Watco-Issue-210x136.jpg 210w, https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Watco-Issue.jpg 1200w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 583px) 100vw, 583px" /></p>
<h2 data-start="1155" data-end="1186">The Hinjilikatu Case Study</h2>
<p data-start="1188" data-end="1503">The project aimed to provide 24-hour water supply in Hinjilikatu, where former Chief Minister <strong data-start="1282" data-end="1300">Naveen Patnaik</strong> inaugurated the <strong data-start="1317" data-end="1333">Sujal Yojana</strong> in December 2022 with a budget of ₹62 crore. Initial installations were completed, and 6,500 residents across three wards were promised round-the-clock drinking water.</p>
<p data-start="1505" data-end="1709">However, one year later, residents are far from that goal. Instead of 24-hour supply, water is available only <strong data-start="1615" data-end="1636">two hours per day</strong>, split between morning and evening, and often at inconsistent timings.</p>
<p data-start="1505" data-end="1709"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class=" wp-image-5127 aligncenter" src="https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Water-Issues-in-Odisha-Exclusive-300x169.jpg" alt="" width="746" height="420" srcset="https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Water-Issues-in-Odisha-Exclusive-300x169.jpg 300w, https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Water-Issues-in-Odisha-Exclusive-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Water-Issues-in-Odisha-Exclusive-768x432.jpg 768w, https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Water-Issues-in-Odisha-Exclusive-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Water-Issues-in-Odisha-Exclusive.jpg 1920w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 746px) 100vw, 746px" /></p>
<h2 data-start="1711" data-end="1751">Contaminated Water Threatens Health</h2>
<p data-start="1753" data-end="2093">In Bhubaneswar’s older areas, water supply has become even more alarming. Residents report that water flowing through pipelines is muddy, contaminated, and unsafe for consumption. Two weeks of dirty water have caused skin infections, especially among children, with hospitals like <strong data-start="2034" data-end="2050">BMC Hospital</strong> reporting a surge in pediatric patients.</p>
<p data-start="2095" data-end="2302">Local complaints indicate the risk of waterborne diseases, including jaundice, due to prolonged consumption of contaminated water. Residents have resorted to buying bottled water, but the problem persists.</p>
<p data-start="2095" data-end="2302"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class=" wp-image-5128 aligncenter" src="https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Watco-and-water-scarcity-300x214.jpg" alt="" width="555" height="396" srcset="https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Watco-and-water-scarcity-300x214.jpg 300w, https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Watco-and-water-scarcity-1024x731.jpg 1024w, https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Watco-and-water-scarcity-768x548.jpg 768w, https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Watco-and-water-scarcity-1536x1096.jpg 1536w, https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Watco-and-water-scarcity.jpg 2031w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 555px) 100vw, 555px" /></p>
<h2 data-start="2304" data-end="2340">WATCO’s Role and Accountability</h2>
<p data-start="2342" data-end="2615">The Water Supply and Sewerage Board (<strong data-start="2379" data-end="2388">WATCO</strong>) was entrusted with executing the project. Despite repeated complaints, officials have failed to provide safe water consistently. Maintenance and repair of pipelines remain slow, leading to widespread public dissatisfaction.</p>
<p data-start="2342" data-end="2615"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class=" wp-image-5129 aligncenter" src="https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Protest-aganist-Water-scarcity-300x169.jpeg" alt="" width="726" height="409" srcset="https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Protest-aganist-Water-scarcity-300x169.jpeg 300w, https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Protest-aganist-Water-scarcity-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Protest-aganist-Water-scarcity-768x432.jpeg 768w, https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Protest-aganist-Water-scarcity-1536x864.jpeg 1536w, https://odishaconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Protest-aganist-Water-scarcity.jpeg 1600w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 726px) 100vw, 726px" /></p>
<h2 data-start="2617" data-end="2645">Public Discontent Grows</h2>
<p data-start="2647" data-end="2915">The failure of the “Drink from Tap” project has led to mounting frustration. Residents demand immediate action to provide safe, potable water. Authorities face growing pressure to ensure the promises of the Sujal Yojana are fulfilled before public protests escalate.</p>
<h2 data-start="2917" data-end="2932">Conclusion</h2>
<p data-start="2934" data-end="3271">While slogans like <strong data-start="2953" data-end="2972">“Water is Life”</strong> dominate official discourse, the reality for Odisha’s residents is starkly different. Clean, 24-hour tap water remains a distant dream in many districts. Questions remain: <strong data-start="3145" data-end="3269">How many more years must citizens wait? How many governments must come and go before this basic necessity is guaranteed?</strong></p>

<p data-start="105" data-end="419">The Income Tax Department on Thursday launched a major crackdown on properties linked to late Odisha Health Minister <strong data-start="257" data-end="277">Naba Kishore Das</strong>, raiding over 20 locations across <strong data-start="312" data-end="362">Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bhubaneswar, Sundargarh</strong>, and <strong data-start="368" data-end="377">Delhi</strong> on suspicions of large-scale tax evasion.</p>
<p data-start="421" data-end="945">The raids, which began early at <strong data-start="453" data-end="463">5 a.m.</strong>, were carried out by <strong data-start="485" data-end="512">120 Income Tax officers</strong>, supported by <strong data-start="527" data-end="579">40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel</strong> and a <strong data-start="586" data-end="605">scientific team</strong>. Properties belonging to Das’ family members, close associates, and business entities were targeted, with a particular focus on his <strong data-start="738" data-end="777">residence at Sarbahal in Jharsuguda</strong>, where operations continued until at least <strong data-start="821" data-end="831">7 p.m.</strong> No official statements or disclosures were made by authorities regarding materials recovered during the searches.</p>
<h3 data-start="947" data-end="998">Focus on Coal, Ash Transport &amp; Biofuel Ventures</h3>
<p data-start="1000" data-end="1514">The investigation reportedly centers on <strong data-start="1040" data-end="1101">financial dealings related to coal and ash transportation</strong> and <strong data-start="1106" data-end="1126">biofuel projects</strong>, where significant monetary transactions had taken place. <strong data-start="1185" data-end="1199">Vishal Das</strong>, son of Naba Das, is under scrutiny for investment records and his partnership in <strong data-start="1282" data-end="1313">four Jharsuguda-based firms</strong> since mid-2023. Searches also extended to the properties of <strong data-start="1374" data-end="1395">Braja Kishore Das</strong>, the minister’s brother, and business associate <strong data-start="1444" data-end="1460">Sanjay Nanda</strong>, both allegedly involved in the coal transport trade.</p>
<p data-start="1516" data-end="1684">In <strong data-start="1519" data-end="1532">Sambalpur</strong>, establishments such as <strong data-start="1557" data-end="1575">Hotel Mandarin</strong>, <strong data-start="1577" data-end="1589">D-Lounge</strong>, and a <strong data-start="1597" data-end="1622">residence in Mudipada</strong> were also searched, adding to the scale of the investigation.</p>
<h3 data-start="1686" data-end="1719">Political Fallout and ED Link</h3>
<p data-start="1721" data-end="2114">A source close to the investigation suggested that while no formal findings have been revealed, the <strong data-start="1821" data-end="1869">breadth of the raids signals serious charges</strong>. The operation is reportedly being coordinated with the <strong data-start="1926" data-end="1958">Enforcement Directorate (ED)</strong> and follows earlier IT raids conducted in <strong data-start="2001" data-end="2017">January 2025</strong> on the properties of <strong data-start="2039" data-end="2052">Braja Das</strong>, where responses to IT notices were found to be insufficient.</p>
<p data-start="2116" data-end="2447">The fresh scrutiny has generated considerable political stir in Odisha, especially given Naba Das&#8217; status as a prominent <strong data-start="2237" data-end="2251">BJD leader</strong> who was <strong data-start="2260" data-end="2292">assassinated in January 2023</strong>. The renewed investigation into his family’s financial activities is seen as part of a larger trend of heightened accountability for high-profile figures.</p>
<p data-start="2449" data-end="2661" data-is-last-node="" data-is-only-node="">As the operation enters its second day, speculation continues around the political implications and possible further revelations in what appears to be one of Odisha’s most high-profile tax probes in recent years.</p>
