The 11th edition of the National Children’s Literary Festival (NCLF) 2025 hosted by KIIT International School began on a vibrant and energising note on Saturday, bringing together young literary enthusiasts from across India for a weekend of creativity, imagination and storytelling. The opening ceremony drew major attention with the presence of acclaimed Bollywood actor Vikrant Massey, whose interaction with students added star power and enthusiasm to the event.

Declaring the festival open, KIIT & KISS Founder Dr. Achyuta Samanta encouraged students to nurture curiosity and creativity. Calling children “the future” and “the source of excitement and hope,” he highlighted how NCLF was born out of the need for a literary platform exclusively dedicated to young readers and writers. “When we started this festival, there were many literary events in India, but none meant solely for children,” Dr. Samanta said.

He further added that since its inception, the festival has grown in size and stature each year. “In 2016, we added ‘national’ to it because your imagination doesn’t recognise borders,” he said, urging students to value discipline, develop attentive listening skills, and cultivate a strong reading and writing habit. “The internet alone will not help you. That’s why we introduced children’s literature,” he reminded the gathering.

Monalisa Bal, Chairperson of KIIT International School and Editor of KloudNine, spoke passionately about the significance of the festival. Calling it a “special place” in the institution’s culture, she emphasised its role in inspiring creativity and diverse perspectives among young minds. Reflecting on the fast-paced digital era, she said, “In today’s world, where everything moves at the speed of notifications, I often ask myself: Are we losing touch with the quiet beauty of words? But literature is not dying—it is waiting. Waiting to be rediscovered and re-loved by the incredible generation sitting before me.”

The event’s biggest highlight, Vikrant Massey, captivated students with his heartfelt message on success and resilience. “Success never stands alone,” he said, adding that Gen Z is the “most fearless generation” he has encountered. Renowned author Koral Dasgupta and former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh also graced the occasion, making the inaugural day even more memorable.

A special moment of the ceremony was the unveiling of the digital edition of KloudNine, the school’s magazine, by Dr. Samanta, marking yet another step towards creative innovation.

The festival, packed with workshops, interactive sessions, and storytelling activities, will continue to engage and inspire young participants over the coming days.
