The Odisha government has issued a stern warning against any form of cheating or malpractice in the ongoing Police Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment examinations, which have recently sparked widespread protests across the state. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasized that corrupt practices will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

SOP Introduced for Transparency

The General Administration Department has introduced a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to ensure fairness and transparency in the recruitment process. The SOP mandates that exam questions be prepared by subject experts in a secure manner, with CCTV surveillance at exam centres and biometric verification for online tests.

Investigations and Arrests

Allegations of malpractice have raised questions about the involvement of powerful individuals. The Crime Branch is investigating the Odisha Police Recruitment Board and associated agencies, including outsourced firms. Reports suggest widespread irregularities in exams conducted by the same agency from 2021 onwards, leading to the nullification of several exams. So far, 118 individuals have been arrested, and efforts continue to track down further corrupt practices dating back to the previous government.

Future Recruitment Plans

The government is planning transparent competitive exams in the coming years to fill approximately 1.5 lakh vacancies. Chief Minister Majhi has directed all departments to strictly follow the SOP and ensure that the recruitment process remains free from corruption.

Political Fallout

The issue has ignited a political debate, with ruling and opposition parties exchanging accusations. While investigations continue, the government is focused on restoring public trust by thoroughly rooting out corruption in recruitment exams.
