Leader of Opposition and Naveen Patnaik, who is also the president of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), has once again travelled to New Delhi for a seven-day visit. This marks his second trip to the national capital within two months, triggering political discussions across Odisha.

Routine Visit, Says Party

According to party sources, the visit is described as a “routine” one involving personal and scheduled engagements. BJD leaders stated that the former Chief Minister may also meet several individuals during his stay in Delhi and participate in both political and personal programmes.

Senior BJD leader Debi Prasad Mishra said that Naveen Patnaik’s visit is part of his regular schedule and includes multiple pre-planned engagements, along with possible meetings with central leaders and participation in a social event.

Political and Personal Engagements Planned

Party representatives have indicated that the BJD president will remain in Delhi for around a week. During this period, he is expected to attend various official and personal commitments, with additional meetings likely to be finalised during the visit.

However, no detailed public schedule has been released regarding his engagements in the capital.

Speculation Over Frequent Delhi Visits

The latest visit has attracted attention due to its timing, coming shortly after his earlier trip in April. Naveen Patnaik had visited Delhi on April 10 for a six-day stay, which the party had then described as a personal visit related to family health matters.

Before that, his last known visit to Delhi was in September 2025.

Reception at Airport by Senior Leaders

Before departing for the capital, Naveen Patnaik was seen off at the Biju Patnaik International Airport by several senior BJD leaders, including Debi Prasad Mishra, Pratap Jena, Ananta Narayan Jena, Susanta Routray, Chinmaya Sahu, Ipsita Sahoo, Lenin Mohanty, and Arup Srichandan, among others.

Opposition and Political Interest Grows

While the BJD maintains that the visit is routine, the frequency of Delhi trips by the party chief has become a subject of political discussion in Odisha’s political circles. However, the party has reiterated that there is no political significance attached to the current visit.

As Naveen Patnaik begins his week-long stay in the national capital, all eyes remain on whether any significant political meetings or developments emerge during his visit, even as the party insists it is part of his regular schedule.
