Tragedy Strikes During Kartik Ekadashi Celebrations

A massive crowd surge at the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Kasibugga, located in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district, turned tragic on Ekadashi day, claiming nine lives and leaving several others injured. The incident occurred during the auspicious Kartik month, when thousands of devotees thronged the temple for special rituals and darshan.

According to eyewitnesses, the situation spiraled out of control when a section of the crowd began pushing forward, triggering panic and a deadly stampede. Several devotees fell and were trampled as others tried to escape the crush.

Rescue and Relief Operations Launched

Emergency rescue teams and local police responded swiftly to the crisis. The injured were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Officials stated that the unexpectedly large turnout of devotees made it difficult for both temple authorities and security personnel to manage the crowd effectively.

Chief Minister Naidu Expresses Grief and Orders Probe

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed profound grief over the tragedy.

“The tragic stampede at the Kasibugga Venkateswara Temple is deeply saddening. The deaths of innocent devotees are heartbreaking. I extend my sincere condolences to the bereaved families,”
Naidu said in an official statement.

The Chief Minister directed the district administration to provide the best medical care to the injured and ensure all relief measures are carried out with urgency and compassion. He also ordered an in-depth inquiry into the incident to determine the lapses in crowd management.

High-ranking police and civil officials have been sent to the site to monitor rescue efforts and maintain peace in the area.

Minister Achannaidu Oversees Relief Work

State Agriculture Minister K. Achannaidu reached Kasibugga soon after the incident to oversee rescue and relief operations. He assured that the state government would extend all possible assistance to the victims and their families.

Additional police forces have been deployed around the temple to prevent further unrest and to ensure a thorough investigation into the cause of the stampede, including possible negligence by officials responsible for crowd control.
