Earthquakes Felt Across Multiple Regions

Several parts of the world experienced earthquake activity on Thursday, with strong tremors reported in Venezuela and Japan, while mild earthquakes were also recorded in different regions of India. According to India’s National Center for Seismology (NCS), earthquakes of varying intensity were felt in Jammu & Kashmir, Assam, and Meghalaya. Fortunately, no casualties or major damage were reported from the Indian incidents.

Midnight Tremor in Jammu & Kashmir

An earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale struck Pulwama district in Jammu & Kashmir at around 2:30 a.m. on June 25. The quake originated at a depth of approximately 15 kilometers beneath the earth’s surface. Many residents were asleep when the tremor occurred and rushed out of their homes in fear. Authorities confirmed that there was no loss of life or property.

Powerful Earthquakes Rock Venezuela

The most severe impact was reported from Venezuela, where two powerful earthquakes struck within minutes of each other. The first measured 7.1 in magnitude, followed shortly by a stronger 7.5-magnitude quake. The epicenters were located near the coastal city of Morón at shallow depths, increasing the intensity of the shaking.

The earthquakes caused widespread destruction in the capital city, Caracas. Several buildings suffered heavy damage, and reports indicated the collapse of a high-rise structure in the Altamira district. Rescue teams and volunteers have been working continuously to search for survivors trapped under the rubble.

Casualties Feared, Tsunami Alert Issued

Authorities have not yet released an official casualty figure, but damage assessments are ongoing. Emergency services have urged residents to avoid unstable buildings and remain alert for aftershocks. As a precaution, gas supplies were suspended in several residential areas to prevent fires.

Following the powerful earthquakes, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued tsunami advisories for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Meanwhile, Japan reported a 6.9-magnitude earthquake, though no major damage or tsunami threat has been reported there so far.
