Relentless Heat Grips the State
The heatwave conditions across Odisha are worsening with each passing day, as scorching temperatures and strong hot winds continue to disrupt daily life. The intensity of the sun feels unbearable, with conditions resembling a blazing furnace. Stepping outdoors after 11 AM has become extremely difficult in both western and coastal regions. The sweltering heat and humidity are leaving people exhausted, while streets appear deserted during peak afternoon hours.

Western Odisha Faces Extreme Conditions
The situation is particularly alarming in western districts such as Jharsuguda, Bolangir, Sambalpur, and Sundargarh, where temperatures are consistently breaking records. Jharsuguda recorded a scorching 44.8°C, making it the hottest place in the state. Titlagarh registered 44°C, while Sambalpur recorded 43.6°C. The Meteorological Department has issued alerts for Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Bolangir, and Sambalpur, warning of continued severe heatwave conditions.

Hot Winds and Humidity Add to Discomfort
Both interior and coastal regions are experiencing intense hot winds accompanied by high humidity, making conditions even more uncomfortable. Citizens are increasingly relying on umbrellas, caps, and water bottles to cope with the heat. Shops selling lassi and sugarcane juice are witnessing heavy crowds as people seek relief from the extreme temperatures.

Yellow Alert Issued for 13 Districts
A yellow warning has been issued for 13 districts, including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati. These areas are expected to experience intense heat combined with high humidity. The Meteorological Department has advised people to avoid stepping out during peak afternoon hours unless absolutely necessary.

Early Summer Vacation Announced
In response to the severe heatwave, the state government has announced early summer vacations for schools starting April 27. All government, government-aided, and private schools across the state will remain closed. However, pre-scheduled examinations, census-related work, and official duties will continue as planned. Initially, holidays were being declared district-wise, but now the closure has been extended to all schools statewide.

Authorities have urged residents to take necessary precautions, stay hydrated, and avoid exposure to direct sunlight during peak hours. With temperatures expected to remain high, citizens are advised to remain indoors as much as possible to prevent heat-related illnesses.
