A road built to transform the future of Western Odisha has now become a matter of concern for thousands of commuters. The much-publicised Biju Expressway, constructed as a major infrastructure project, is facing allegations of poor maintenance, damaged roads and increasing accidents, especially on the Nuapada-Sinapali stretch.

The highway, which was developed with an investment of thousands of crores of rupees, was expected to improve connectivity and boost economic growth in the region. However, residents claim that instead of bringing faster development, the road has become a danger zone where accidents have become frequent.

Nuapada-Sinapali Route Turns Into Accident-Prone Zone

The 137-kilometre Nuapada-Sinapali route has reportedly developed large potholes, damaged surfaces and poor road conditions. During rainfall, several sections of the road are said to deteriorate further, creating serious risks for drivers.

Locals allege that the highway lacks proper safety arrangements, including adequate signage and preventive measures. Vehicles travelling at high speed often face sudden road hazards, leading to accidents and loss of lives.

Residents have questioned how a modern four-lane highway built with public money could reach such a condition within a few years of completion.

Questions Over Quality of Construction Work

Concerns have been raised over the quality of construction and the monitoring process during the project. Critics allege that inadequate supervision and negligence by responsible agencies resulted in poor-quality work.

The highway, which was once projected as a symbol of development, is now being criticised as a failed infrastructure project. People are demanding accountability from contractors and officials involved in the construction and maintenance process.

The deteriorating condition of the road has sparked questions over responsibility. Locals are asking why repair work has not been completed despite repeated concerns and why strict action has not been taken against agencies responsible for the poor condition.
