Australia entered the must-win clash needing victory to stay alive in the tournament. Opening the innings, Marsh took charge in the final over of the powerplay.

The over began quietly with a dot ball. What followed, however, was pure domination.

• The second delivery was guided elegantly to point with an open bat face for four.

• The third ball met the same fate, racing to the boundary.

• A mistimed fourth delivery still found the cover ropes.

• The fifth was flicked comfortably to the leg side for another boundary.

• The sixth ball was struck with a picture-perfect cover drive, sealing five consecutive fours.

The stadium erupted as Marsh turned the over into a boundary bonanza, shifting momentum dramatically in Australia’s favour.

Theekshana’s Unwanted Record

The brutal assault significantly dented Theekshana’s figures. He conceded 35 runs in his three powerplay overs without claiming a wicket, registering an economy rate close to 12.

Earlier in the innings, he had already been struck for two boundaries by Travis Head, compounding the pressure.

The spell went down as one of the most expensive by a Sri Lankan bowler in T20 Internationals, marking a rare off-day for the usually dependable spinner.

Sri Lanka Fight Back in Style

Despite Marsh’s explosive start, Australia failed to capitalize. After the powerplay fireworks, the batting line-up faltered under pressure.

Sri Lanka responded with composure and dominance in their chase, securing an emphatic eight-wicket victory. The win sealed their place in the Super 8 stage of the tournament.

Australia’s Early Exit

Australia’s campaign ended in disappointment. After defeating Ireland earlier in the group stage, consecutive losses to Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka knocked them out of contention.

For a team with high expectations, the early exit marked a major setback.

 A Moment to Remember

Though the result did not go Australia’s way, Marsh’s fearless display captured the very essence of T20 cricket — aggression, innovation, and entertainment packed into a few unforgettable deliveries.

In a tournament filled with drama, that single over will be remembered as a shining example of how quickly the game can ignite — and how one batter can momentarily seize control of the biggest stage.
