Odisha’s premium Arabica coffee brand, Tiger Bright, has reached the global diplomatic stage after coffee cultivated by tribal farmers in Koraput was gifted to guests at the BRICS Summit in New Delhi.
Grown in the Nandapur and Machhkund areas of Koraput at elevations of around 920–950 metres, the 100% Arabica coffee is cultivated naturally under shade trees. The cherries are handpicked and processed under the support of the Tribal Development Co-operative Corporation of Odisha Ltd. (TDCCOL).
Rising Coffee Production
The organised Koraput Coffee initiative gained momentum with the launch of the brand in 2019. During the 2025–26 season, TDCCOL procured a record 102.54 metric tonnes of coffee fruit, nearly three times the 34.68 MT procured in 2022–23. The growth has benefited around 360 tribal families, including 71 tribal women farmers.
TDCCOL has also introduced direct digital payments, transferring ₹1.07 crore directly into farmers’ bank accounts. Smart Cards have been adopted by 45.7% of coffee growers to support identification and digital tracking.
Growing National Recognition
Tiger Bright offers tropical citrus notes along with caramel, chocolate and cocoa undertones. Koraput Coffee has also earned national recognition, winning two Fine Cup Awards at KYK 2024 and securing fourth rank in the Coffee Board’s Flavour of India Fine Cup 2024.
TDCCOL has established eight Koraput Coffee cafés across Odisha and Delhi. The brand has also commercialised more than 10,634 packs of Tiger Bright.
Its presence at the BRICS Summit highlights how tribal products from Odisha can gain global visibility while creating stronger markets, value addition and sustainable livelihood opportunities for local farming communities.
