Viral Controversy: SS Rajamouli Trolled for Calling Out Lord Rama and Hanuman

Famous filmmaker’s old post on X sparks debate over personal beliefs and religious sensitivities

Viral Post Sparks Controversy
Famed filmmaker SS Rajamouli, celebrated worldwide for blockbusters like Baahubali and RRR, is at the center of a new controversy after an old social media post resurfaced. In 2011, a fan on X (formerly Twitter) sent him Ram Navami wishes, to which Rajamouli replied candidly: “I have never liked Lord Rama. Of all his avatars, Lord Krishna is my favourite.”

The post quickly went viral, drawing criticism from netizens who questioned the director’s beliefs, despite his films often drawing on mythological and historical themes.

Rajamouli’s Public Atheism

This is not the first time Rajamouli has expressed his personal beliefs. The director has repeatedly declared himself an atheist. Most recently, during the teaser release of his next large-budget movie in Varanasi, technical failures led him to an emotional outburst in front of 50,000 people.

He reportedly said, “Lord Hanuman has failed me. I do not believe in gods and goddesses.” Rajamouli explained that despite his father invoking Hanuman’s blessings, the technical issue persisted. He also noted that his wife, a devout Hanuman follower, considers the god as her friend.

Trolling and Legal Complaints

The remarks did not sit well with the Rashtriya Bajrang Sena, who filed a police complaint against the filmmaker. Social media quickly amplified the incident, with videos of the outburst being widely shared.

Despite the criticism and trolling, Rajamouli, known for staying silent during controversies, has not commented publicly on the current backlash.

Conflict Between Personal Beliefs and Public Expectations

The episode has reignited debates around the tension between personal ideology and popular expectations in a religious society. With anticipation high for his Varanasi-based project, industry watchers are keeping a close eye on how the director manages the fallout.

Whether Rajamouli will address the scandal or let it fade away quietly remains uncertain.
