World Skill Center, OHPC to Set Up Green Energy Centre of Excellence in Bhubaneswar

World Skill Center and OHPC join hands to establish a state-of-the-art Green Energy Centre of Excellence in Bhubaneswar, focusing on solar technology, advanced training and employment opportunities.

The World Skill Center (WSC) and Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC) have partnered to establish a Green Energy (Solar) Centre of Excellence (CoE) at the WSC campus in Mancheswar, Bhubaneswar.

The CSR-funded initiative will involve an investment of ₹1.48 crore across the financial years 2026–27 and 2027–28. The facility, spread over around 3,000 square feet at Kaushal Bhawan, will provide hands-on training in modern solar energy technologies.

Advanced Solar Training

The Centre will feature demonstration systems for rooftop solar, floating solar and solar-tracker technologies. It will also integrate advanced areas such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), SCADA, Industrial IoT, remote monitoring, digital twins, predictive maintenance and Energy Management Systems.

The initiative aims to bridge the gap between formal certification and industry-ready skills while supporting Odisha’s transition towards clean energy.

WSC Expansion Plans

Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo announced that WSC will increase its annual fully sponsored student intake from 60 to 100 candidates from this year.

A proposal has also been made to establish new World Skill Center branches in Berhampur and Sambalpur, enabling advanced technical training to reach more youth across the state.

Training for 300 Youth Annually

The Centre is expected to train around 300 youth every year for job-oriented roles such as Solar PV Technicians, Operations and Maintenance Technicians, Site Supervisors and Energy Auditors.

The programme will be open to youth from all districts, with special outreach in OHPC operational areas. It will also promote women’s participation in the green energy sector and encourage local entrepreneurship.

Industry and Skill Development Minister Sampad Chandra Swain said the Centre would help equip Odisha’s youth with future-ready skills and strengthen the state’s position in clean energy innovation and sustainable employment.
