Head-On Collision Between Cement Mixer and Van
In a tragic incident, at least 11 people lost their lives in a devastating road accident in Thane district on Monday. The accident occurred on the Kalyan–Ahlayanagar National Highway when a cement mixer truck collided head-on with a Maruti Eeco taxi.
Van Completely Crushed in Impact
The collision was so severe that the Maruti van was completely mangled. The accident took place around 11:25 AM on the Panjar Bridge when the van, carrying a family from Murbad to Kalyan, crashed into the oncoming cement mixer.
11 Dead, One Critically Injured
There were 12 people in the van at the time of the accident. Tragically, 11 of them died on the spot, including three women. One person sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Rescue Operations Launched Immediately
Following the accident, rescue teams quickly reached the spot. With the help of local residents, they managed to retrieve the bodies from the severely damaged vehicle.
Investigation Underway
The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined. Police have launched an investigation into the incident. The mishap temporarily disrupted traffic on the bridge, but normal movement resumed after authorities cleared the wreckage.
Victims Identified
So far, nine of the deceased have been identified. They include Bablue Rupesh Chandane, Bhushan Ghorpade, Jija Govinda Kembar, Anant Pawar, Deepak Gavil, Ganpat Jainu Madhe, Sneha Mohape, Manasi Mohape, and Prathamesh Mohape. Post-mortem examinations are currently underway.
Traffic Restored After Clearance
The accident caused major traffic disruption on the bridge for some time. However, prompt action by police and administrative officials ensured that the damaged vehicles were removed and traffic flow was restored.
