IMD Issues Heatwave Warning; Western Odisha May See Temperatures Touch 45°C

Severe Heat Conditions to Continue Till April 17

Odisha is set to experience an intense rise in temperature, with the mercury likely to soar by as much as 6°C in the coming days. According to the India Meteorological Department, the prevailing heatwave conditions will continue until April 17, bringing severe heat and humid weather across the state.

Multiple Districts to Face Extreme Heat and Humidity

On Monday, districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati are expected to witness intense heat coupled with high humidity.

Western Odisha will bear the brunt of the heat, with places like Titilagarh, Balangir, and Jharsuguda likely to record temperatures around 43°C. Bargarh may touch 42°C, while Boudh is expected to hover around 41°C.

Heatwave Warning for Western Odisha

A heatwave alert has been issued for Bargarh and Balangir districts starting Tuesday. Temperatures in Balangir, Titilagarh, and Bargarh may spike up to 45°C, while Jharsuguda could record 43°C. Boudh and Nuapada are also expected to witness temperatures around 41°C.

Hot Winds to Disrupt Normal Life

Between April 15 and 16, heatwave conditions are likely to intensify further in districts such as Bargarh, Balangir, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur. Hot winds are expected to blow across these regions, significantly affecting daily life.

During this period, temperatures in Balangir, Titilagarh, Bargarh, and Jharsuguda may again reach 45°C, making conditions extremely uncomfortable.

Coastal and Southern Odisha to Remain Humid

While temperatures in coastal and southern Odisha may be relatively lower, residents will continue to experience high humidity and discomfort. On April 17 and 18, several coastal areas are also likely to witness intense heat and sultry weather.

Recent Temperature Trends

On Sunday, Titilagarh recorded 41.5°C, followed by Bhawanipatna and Balangir at 41°C. Jharsuguda registered 40.7°C, Hirakud 40°C, and Sambalpur 40.1°C. In contrast, Bhubaneswar recorded 37.7°C and Cuttack 37.4°C.

Public Advisory Issued

The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a heatwave warning across Odisha, urging people to remain cautious. With scorching conditions expected for the next six days, especially around the time of Pana Sankranti, residents have been advised to take necessary precautions to avoid heatstroke and dehydration.

Authorities have appealed to the public to limit outdoor activities during peak hours and stay hydrated to cope with the extreme weather conditions.
