Odisha Police Launches Statewide Coastal Clean-Up Ahead of International Coastal Clean-up Day 2025

“Cleanliness is the Best Service to Mankind” Campaign

On the eve of International Coastal Clean-up Day 2025, the Coastal Security Wing of Odisha Police launched a special statewide cleanliness drive across all 18 Marine Police Stations in Odisha’s coastal districts on Saturday. The campaign, themed “Cleanliness is the Best Service to Mankind – Swachhata Hi Uttam Seva”, aims to raise environmental awareness and encourage community participation in maintaining safe, clean, and sustainable shorelines.

Targeted Clean-Up Activities Across Coastline

Marine Police Stations conducted systematic clean-up activities along Odisha’s coastline. In a notable initiative, four stations focused on cleaning uninhabited islands:

  • MPS Paradip at Boitarakuda

  • Talchua at Bhitarakanika

  • Talsari at Suvarna Island

  • Dhamara at Udabali Island

Inspectors Babita Deury, Bimal Kumar Mallick, and Champabati Soren led teams at various locations, extending the campaign to ecologically sensitive and remote areas, highlighting Odisha Police’s commitment to preserving marine biodiversity.

Community Participation and Collaboration

Around 350 personnel, along with representatives from the Fisheries and Forest departments, participated in the drive. Fishermen communities and local stakeholders were actively involved, making the campaign a collective effort to promote coastal conservation. Citizens were encouraged to participate, reinforcing the idea of a cleaner, greener coastline through joint action.

DGP’s Message on Environmental Responsibility

In his message, DGP YB Khurania emphasized that the initiative goes beyond mere cleanliness, aiming to instill a culture of environmental responsibility. He noted,
“This drive reaffirms Odisha Police’s commitment to safeguarding the coastline while protecting the marine ecosystem for future generations.”
