Celebrating Odisha’s Rich Cultural Heritage

Raja is one of Odisha’s most significant traditional and agriculture-based festivals. Celebrated for three to four days during the middle of June, coinciding with the beginning of the Mithuna month, the festival marks the onset of the monsoon season.

According to popular belief, Mother Earth undergoes a period of rest during Raja, symbolizing fertility and regeneration. As a result, agricultural activities are traditionally suspended during the festival. Raja also serves as a celebration of womanhood, with women being given respite from strenuous household and agricultural work.

Through vibrant cultural traditions, swings, songs, traditional attire, and festive foods, Raja continues to remain a cherished symbol of Odisha’s cultural identity and respect for nature and feminine power.
