Omfed Milk Prices Hiked Again Ahead of Festive Season

Omfed raises milk prices by ₹2–₹4 per litre ahead of the festive season, with Premium, Gold, Gold Plus and Toned milk becoming costlier from today.

Consumers in Odisha have received another price shock ahead of the festive season, with the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (Omfed) increasing the prices of several varieties of milk. The revised prices have come into effect from today, with rates rising by ₹2 to ₹4 per litre.

New Milk Prices

Under the revised rates, the price of Omfed Premium Milk has increased from ₹56.60 to ₹60 per litre. The 500 ml packet of Premium Milk will now cost ₹29.

Similarly, Omfed Gold Milk will now be available at ₹62 per litre, while the price of Gold Plus Milk has been increased to ₹66 per litre. The price of toned milk has also gone up to ₹58 per litre.

The latest hike is expected to affect household budgets, particularly during the festive season when demand for milk and milk-based products generally increases.

Second Price Hike in Six Months

This is the second major milk price hike by Omfed within a short period. The federation had increased milk prices in May this year, with rates going up by ₹3 to ₹4 per litre at the time.

The fresh hike, coming less than six months after the previous increase, is likely to add to the financial burden on consumers.

Impact on Tea and Food Items

The increase in milk prices could also have a wider impact on tea shops, restaurants and other food businesses. There is already speculation that the price of a cup of tea and some milk-based food products could rise following the latest revision.

With the festive season underway, the milk price hike is likely to put additional pressure on household expenses and consumer spending.
