Murder in Bihar’s Samastipur
A shocking murder case in Bihar has emerged, in which a man allegedly travelled nearly 2,000 km from Surat to Samastipur to kill his father. The incident took place in Darwa village under the Halai police station area of Samastipur district.
According to police, Raghubir Sahani was sleeping outside his house late on July 26 when he was attacked with an axe. The accused allegedly struck his father several times before fleeing the spot.
‘Drishyam’ Allegedly Inspired the Crime
Police identified the victim’s son, Shiv Shankar, as the prime accused during the investigation. Officials said he had a dispute with his father over the sale of land and had also allegedly faced family tensions.
During interrogation, Shiv Shankar reportedly told police that he had watched the film ‘Drishyam’ while living in Surat and allegedly drew inspiration from it to plan the murder.
He reportedly switched off his mobile phone before travelling from Surat to Bihar to avoid being tracked. He reached his village late at night, entered through the rear door and allegedly used an axe kept inside the house to attack his sleeping father.
One Phone Call Exposed the Suspect
The accused allegedly made a crucial mistake after the murder. He switched on his mobile phone at Patori railway station and spoke to his wife before turning it off again.
Police traced the phone’s location to Patori during the night of the murder. Call records and other technical evidence reportedly helped investigators establish his movements.
Arrest From Surat
Police later arrested Shiv Shankar from Surat. Investigators also noted that he did not attend his father’s funeral, which further raised suspicion.
The case highlights how a brief lapse in an attempt to conceal digital traces allegedly helped police uncover the murder conspiracy.
