If you are planning to visit a bank branch in the remaining days of August, it is important to check the holiday schedule in advance. Banks will remain closed for a total of six days between August 22 and August 31, although the holidays will vary from one state or city to another.
Today, August 22, banks are closed across the country on account of the fourth Saturday. This will be followed by the regular Sunday holiday on August 23.
Bank Holiday Schedule
According to the holiday calendar, banks will remain closed on August 25 in select locations, including parts of Kerala and Andhra Pradesh, on account of Milad-un-Nabi and First Onam.
On August 26, banks will remain closed in several states and cities for Milad-e-Milad/Bara Wafat and Thiruvonam. The affected locations include Delhi, Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka and Rajasthan, among others.
On August 28, banks will remain closed in several states and regions, including Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, depending on the applicable local holiday.
August 30 will again be a nationwide bank holiday as it falls on a Sunday.
Meanwhile, August 21, 24, 27, 29 and 31 are expected to be regular working days for banks in most states. August 29 is the fifth Saturday of the month, but unlike the second and fourth Saturdays, banks generally remain open on the fifth Saturday.
Digital Banking Services to Continue
Even when bank branches are closed, customers can continue using digital banking services. ATMs will remain operational for cash withdrawals and other available services. UPI platforms such as Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm can also be used for digital payments and money transfers.
Customers can also use mobile or internet banking to check account balances and make transactions through services such as IMPS and NEFT.
However, branch-dependent services such as cheque deposits, passbook updates and certain demand draft-related work may have to wait until the branch reopens. Customers are therefore advised to check the holiday schedule of their local bank before visiting the branch.
