Delhi Government to Launch ‘Delhi Laxmi Yojana’; Eligible Women to Receive ₹2,500 Monthly

Eligible women to receive ₹2,500 every month through DBT; scheme likely to be launched around Raksha Bandhan

The Delhi government is set to launch the Delhi Laxmi Yojana, a financial assistance scheme aimed at supporting economically weaker women in the national capital. The scheme, earlier proposed as Mahila Samriddhi Yojana under the previous AAP government, has been renamed by the BJP-led government headed by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

The scheme will be implemented by the Women and Child Development (WCD) Department and is expected to benefit around 17 lakh women, each receiving ₹2,500 per month through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) into their bank accounts.

According to reports, the Delhi government plans to launch the scheme around Raksha Bandhan on August 28, 2026. Although the government had allocated ₹5,100 crore for the scheme in the 2026-27 Budget, its rollout was delayed due to the lack of verified beneficiary data.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta recently reviewed the preparations and said the government is focused on ensuring that only genuine beneficiaries receive the financial assistance.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the scheme, applicants must:

  • Be women aged 21 to 60 years.
  • Be Delhi residents for at least 10 years.
  • Belong to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category.
  • Have an annual family income of less than ₹2.5 lakh.
  • Register using a Delhi-linked Aadhaar number.
  • Only one woman per family, preferably the eldest adult woman, will be eligible.

Women already receiving government pensions or other regular financial assistance will not be eligible. Families owning a four-wheeler or having members with a criminal record will also be excluded from the scheme.

Registration Process

The government is developing an online registration portal, along with dedicated software to verify applications and identify eligible beneficiaries. While the official list of required documents has not yet been released, applicants are expected to submit Aadhaar card, ration card, and proof of residence during registration.

The Delhi Laxmi Yojana is expected to strengthen the financial independence and social security of lakhs of women across the capital.
