Over 600 Gymnasts to Compete at Kalinga Stadium in a Key Event for International Selection

Odisha is set to host the prestigious Junior & Senior Artistic Gymnastics National Championships 2026–27 at the iconic Kalinga Stadium from April 25 to May 3, 2026. The announcement was made during a press conference organized by the Odisha Gymnastics Association (OGA).

Collaborative Effort to Promote Gymnastics

The championship is being organized by the Odisha Gymnastics Association in collaboration with the Gymnastics Federation of India (GFI), with support from the Sports and Youth Services Department, Government of Odisha.

The press conference was attended by several key dignitaries including Bijay Kumar Swain, Additional Secretary of the Sports and Youth Services Department; Kallol Mukherjee, Chief Operating Officer of GFI; Ashok Sahoo; Dhiran Panda; Dhiroj Kumar Pattnaik; Rakesh Patra; and Ashok Mishra.

Crucial Platform for International Selection

Speaking at the event, Kallol Mukherjee highlighted the importance of the championships, stating that performances here will play a key role in selections for major international events such as the Asian Championships, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games.

Odisha Emerging as a Sporting Hub

Bijay Kumar Swain emphasized Odisha’s growing stature in sports, noting the state’s focus on world-class infrastructure, scientific training, and grassroots development. He said hosting such national events strengthens Odisha’s position as a leading sports hub in India.

Gateway to Commonwealth Games and Asian Championships

OGA Secretary Ashok Sahoo stated that the championship will also serve as a crucial selection trial for the upcoming 2026 Commonwealth Games and Asian Championships. He added that the event offers a vital platform for gymnasts to showcase their talent and gain competitive exposure.

Participation from Across the Country

The championship will witness participation from over 600 gymnasts representing 25 states, 3 Union Territories, and service boards. Competitions will be held across Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG), including team events, individual all-around, and apparatus finals in both junior and senior categories.

Top Gymnasts to Compete

Prominent Indian gymnasts such as Pranati Nayak, Tapan Mohanty, Yogeshwar Singh, Ashish Kumar, Protishta Samanta, and Tapeswaranath Das are expected to participate alongside emerging talents.

World-Class Facilities and Technical Support

The event will be conducted on FIG-approved apparatus and supported by a technical panel of over 300 officials, including judges, coaches, and support staff. Athletes will also have access to dedicated warm-up and training facilities near the high-performance gymnastics centre.

Schedule and Closing Events

The opening ceremony is scheduled for April 25. Competitions will be held in multiple sessions, with the men’s finals concluding on April 28 and the women’s finals on May 3, followed by the closing ceremony.

The return of the National Championships to Odisha marks another significant milestone in the state’s sporting journey, reflecting strong collaboration between OGA, GFI, and the state government to promote gymnastics from grassroots to elite levels.
