Temperature Crosses 44°C in Interior Regions
Odisha is facing intense heatwave conditions, with no relief expected for the next four days. For the first time this year, temperatures in interior areas have crossed 44°C, while coastal regions are also experiencing extreme heat above 41°C.
Jharsuguda Among Hottest Cities
On Wednesday, Jharsuguda recorded 44.4°C by 2:30 PM, making it one of the hottest cities in the country. The capital city Bhubaneswar also recorded around 41°C.
Weather Department Issues Warning
The weather department has warned that the heat will increase further. Many places in western Odisha may see temperatures touching 45°C. Coastal and southern regions will also experience high heat and humidity.
Many Cities Cross 40°C Mark
Several cities recorded high temperatures, including Jharsuguda at 44.6°C, Talcher at 43.5°C, Bhubaneswar at 41.2°C, Paralakhemundi at 40.8°C, and Baripada at 40.6°C. More than 25 cities recorded temperatures above 40°C.
Heatwave to Continue in Several Districts
Heatwave conditions will continue in western Odisha, including Jharsuguda, Balangir, and Sambalpur. Coastal districts like Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati will face high humidity.
High Temperature Till April 25
Temperatures in western Odisha are likely to remain between 42°C and 44°C on April 24 and 25. In districts like Khordha, Bhubaneswar, Jajpur, Cuttack, and Bhadrak, temperatures may stay around or above 40°C.
Relief Likely After April 27
Some relief is expected from April 26 in coastal areas. A drop of 2°C to 4°C across the state is likely from April 27.
Schools Closed Due to Heatwave
Schools and colleges in Dhenkanal have been closed due to the severe heat. Holidays have been extended till April 25 in Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Sonepur, and Sundargarh.
Chance of Rain in Some Areas
Thunderstorms with lightning and rain may occur in parts of southern Odisha till April 26. Some northern areas may also receive rainfall.
Extreme Heat Across State
Recent temperatures include Dhenkanal at 42.4°C, Talcher at 43.5°C, Sambalpur at 43.3°C, Angul at 43.1°C, Hirakud at 43.2°C, Balangir and Sonepur at 41.9°C, Nayagarh and Bhawanipatna at 41.5°C, and Rourkela at 41.3°C.
