A shocking murder case has emerged from Malapatana village under Aali police station in Odisha’s Kendrapara district, where a woman and her two children allegedly strangled the husband and father to death following years of domestic abuse.
The deceased has been identified as Niranjan Sahu, a former driver who allegedly struggled with alcohol addiction and frequently subjected his wife and children to physical abuse, according to the available account of the incident.
Years of Alleged Domestic Abuse
Niranjan reportedly lost his job and developed a habit of returning home intoxicated, often assaulting his wife, Manorama, and their children. Manorama worked washing utensils at a hotel to support the family and finance her younger daughter’s college education, while their son reportedly discontinued his studies and took up work.
Niranjan had allegedly spent three months in jail after assaulting his wife in the past. However, his behaviour reportedly did not improve after his release. He was also accused of mistreating his younger daughter. Unable to endure the alleged abuse, their elder daughter eventually left home.
Husband Allegedly Strangled While Asleep
According to the account of the incident, Niranjan returned home intoxicated on the night before the body was discovered and allegedly assaulted family members before going to sleep.
Manorama, with the alleged assistance of her son and younger daughter, is accused of strangling him while he was asleep. The family members allegedly placed his body outside the house after the incident.
The matter came to light the following morning, prompting Aali police and a scientific team to reach the village and begin an investigation.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and the alleged involvement of the family members. The precise sequence of events and the roles of those allegedly involved will need to be established through the investigation.
Meanwhile, the deceased man’s father and elder brother have reportedly expressed their inability to accept the killing, despite the allegations of prolonged domestic abuse.
