Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati on Saturday interacted with hearing-impaired girls and persons with physical disabilities, stressing the need for skill development and employment opportunities to help them achieve financial independence and lead dignified lives.

The interaction took place at the Abhishek Hall of Lok Bhavan, where around 50 members of Seva Foundation, Keonjhar, including hearing-impaired girls and differently-abled individuals, met the Governor.

During the interaction, representatives of the foundation informed the Governor that the girls are being provided training in tailoring and handicrafts to enhance their employability. Appreciating the initiative, Dr. Kambhampati suggested that the organisation explore employment opportunities for the trained girls in the textile and weaving industries that are coming up in Odisha.

He said linking skilled beneficiaries with industries would not only generate sustainable livelihoods but also enable them to become economically self-reliant and live with dignity.

The Governor also enquired about the availability of assistive devices such as hearing aids and artificial limbs for the beneficiaries. Emphasising the importance of timely support, he suggested that the administration utilise Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives to provide hearing aids and other assistive devices to those in need.

He noted that access to modern assistive technology, coupled with vocational training, can significantly improve the quality of life and employment prospects of persons with disabilities.

Following the interaction, the participants visited the Lok Bhavan garden, Atal Van, and Deer Park as part of an exposure programme organised by the state administration. Arrangements have also been made for the group to visit Puri on Sunday.

The Governor reiterated the importance of creating an inclusive society by empowering persons with disabilities through skill development, employment opportunities and improved access to essential support services, while encouraging greater collaboration between the government, industries and voluntary organisations to achieve these goals.
