India Joins Global 6G Race as 26 Countries Push Next-Generation Networks

5G technology is still expanding across the world, but preparations for the next generation of wireless technology, 6G, are already gaining momentum. India has now joined the global race to develop and deploy 6G networks, with a total of 26 countries working towards the next-generation technology.

The move is expected to pave the way for faster internet speeds, improved connectivity and advanced digital services in the coming years. 6G is being developed to support technologies that will require extremely high-speed and reliable networks.

India Enters the 6G Race

The US Department of Commerce has highlighted India’s participation in the global 6G initiative. During the G20 Innovation Ministerial meeting, India’s Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada held discussions with US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.

According to the US Department of Commerce, the discussions focused on ensuring that next-generation networks are developed in a way that benefits people and supports secure and innovative connectivity.

25 Other Countries in the Race

Apart from India, 25 other countries are involved in efforts to advance 6G technology. These include the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Finland and Sweden.

A key objective of the global initiative is to promote secure, innovative and reliable next-generation communication networks.

India’s Own 6G Mission

India is also pursuing its own 6G development programme. Through initiatives such as the Bharat 6G Mission and Bharat 6G Alliance, the country is working to develop advanced technologies and strengthen its position in the global telecom sector.

The Bharat 6G Alliance has set a target of enabling 6G technology in India by 2030. India also aims to develop 6G-related products and affordable telecom solutions and increase its share in the global technology market.

With 6G development gathering pace worldwide, India’s participation could play a significant role in shaping the country’s future digital infrastructure and telecommunications ecosystem.
