“Empowering Beyond Labels” Theme Highlights Inclusive Education

KIIT International School’s SEN Globe Department celebrated its 11th Foundation Day today, bringing together students, parents, teachers, and distinguished guests to honor the school’s dedication to inclusive education. This year’s theme, “Empowering Beyond Labels,” emphasized the school’s mission to support the holistic growth of neurodivergent children.

Nobel Laureate Abhijit Banerjee Addresses the Gathering

The event was marked by the esteemed presence of Prof. Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee, Nobel Laureate and Ford Foundation International Professor of Economics at MIT, USA.
In his keynote address, Prof. Banerjee highlighted the critical importance of flexible learning environments for children with special needs.

“We are all different… Our obsession with fixed notions of success comes from how we view productivity,” he said. He stressed that rigid academic methods, particularly in mathematics, discourage creativity.
“By insisting on a single way of doing maths, we suppress children’s innovative thinking. We unknowingly stand in the way of education,” he added.

Prof. Banerjee urged educators to shift from labeling children to providing opportunities:
“Give children opportunities, and they will take them. Instead of deciding who is capable, we must nurture the abilities each child has.”

Dr. Samanta Praises Banerjee, Applauds SEN Globe’s Impact

Founder of KIIT & KISS, Dr. Achyuta Samanta, expressed deep admiration for the Nobel laureate.
“Today, we have with us a wonderful human being, Abhijit Banerjee ji. He has delivered a meaningful lecture for all of you,” he said.

Dr. Samanta highlighted the uniqueness of KiiTIS SEN Globe, stating that no other international school integrates children with special needs into mainstream education so comprehensively.
“These children are gaining confidence, and that is our biggest achievement,” he added.

Chairperson Mona Lisa Bal Welcomes Guests, Reflects on SEN Vision

In her welcome address, Dr. Mona Lisa Bal, Chairperson of KIIT International School, expressed pride in hosting Prof. Banerjee. She noted that his research on poverty alleviation and education aligns closely with SEN Globe’s evidence-based approach to supporting children with special educational needs.

She praised the efforts of special educators, psychologists, and therapists who provide customized interventions to help every learner thrive.

Students Shine in Cultural Performances

The celebration featured vibrant cultural performances by SEN Globe students, reflecting their creativity, confidence, and joy.
A special classical dance by Bal Shakti Puraskar awardee Korok Biswas captivated the audience, demonstrating how the right support can help children showcase their talents on a larger platform.

Teachers and Staff Felicitated for Dedication

The program concluded with the felicitation of teachers and staff for their commitment to nurturing neurodivergent learners with empathy, patience, and professionalism. Their contributions continue to strengthen the foundation of inclusive education at KIIT International School.
