Vision to Surpass Modern Urban Hubs

Odisha is set to embark on an ambitious 800-acre new city project that aims to rival, and even surpass, urban models like Gujarat’s Dholera GIFT City. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi revealed that the mega development will span areas including Malipada, Dasapur, Andharua, and Gothapatna, igniting hopes of a green, sustainable, and prosperous urban future.

A Blueprint for Tomorrow’s Bhubaneswar

Urban Development Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra unveiled details of the plan, presenting the city as a symbol of modernity and opportunity. “This new city will not only transform Bhubaneswar’s skyline but also open up fresh possibilities,” he said. To ensure world-class design, Singapore has been invited to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR), building on its proven expertise in similar international ventures.

Features of the Smart City

The proposed city will integrate cutting-edge infrastructure with environmental consciousness. Plans include a state-of-the-art IT park, advanced healthcare facilities, residential complexes, shopping hubs, green parks, and pedestrian-friendly walkways. Alongside public amenities, the project also prioritises industrial institutions, expected to be major job creators for Odisha’s youth.

A Model of Green and Smart Urbanism

Inspired by Dholera GIFT City, the project aspires to be an eco-friendly hub of progress. Singapore is not only expected to provide technical expertise but also financing, reinforcing Odisha’s ambition to position Bhubaneswar as a world-class metropolis with a robust economy and high standards of living.

Balancing New Growth with Redevelopment

While pushing forward with this futuristic city, the Odisha government is also exploring redevelopment plans for existing urban areas, ensuring a balanced approach to growth.

Citizens’ Hope for a Transformed Future

The announcement has sparked excitement among residents, who see the project as a chance to reshape both their city and their lives. Whether Bhubaneswar can balance rapid development with environmental harmony remains a question, but the journey toward a bold new future has already begun.
