Arrest of Fellow Constable

In a chilling turn of events, Bhubaneswar police have arrested a fellow constable on suspicion of murdering woman police constable Shubhamitra Sahu, who had been reported missing earlier this month. The accused, believed to be in a romantic relationship with her, is currently being interrogated by the Special Squad.

Timeline of the Disappearance

Shubhamitra was last seen on duty at the DCP office on September 6. Later that evening, she returned to her rented accommodation around 7 PM. Soon after, her mobile phone was switched off. When she remained untraceable for two days, her father filed a missing complaint at the Capital Police Station.

Call Records Lead to Suspect

Treating the case with utmost seriousness, Commissionerate Police analyzed her call records. The data revealed frequent communication with a traffic constable, who was suspected to be her lover. He was taken into custody and subjected to intensive questioning.

Confession and Search Operation

According to sources close to the investigation, the suspect eventually confessed to killing Shubhamitra. Following his statement, the Special Squad and Keonjhar Police launched a search operation in the forested areas of Keonjhar, where he allegedly disposed of the body.

Shockwaves in the Police Department

The case has sent shockwaves through the police fraternity and the city at large, raising serious concerns about the safety of women officers and the conduct of personnel within the department. While the exact motive remains unclear, police confirm that the accused’s confession has provided a crucial breakthrough.

Forensic and Post-Mortem Examination

Authorities have stated that forensic and post-mortem examinations will be conducted to establish the identity of the deceased—if the body is recovered—and determine the exact cause of death.

Ongoing Investigation

Senior officials are closely monitoring the developments as the investigation continues, with further updates expected once forensic results and additional evidence are gathered.
