Violent Clash Erupts Between BJP and Congress Workers in Patna
Triggered by Alleged Abusive Remarks Against PM Modi and His Late Mother
Patna witnessed violent scenes on Friday after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers clashed with Congress supporters outside the Congress office. The confrontation was sparked by alleged derogatory remarks made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Adhikar Yatra in Darbhanga.
Demonstration Turns Violent
BJP supporters staged a protest outside the Congress office in Patna, demanding a public apology for the offensive comments. Tensions escalated quickly as stone-pelting was reported from the Congress side, leading to a physical altercation involving sticks and flagpoles. Both parties accused each other of initiating the violence. Visuals of the clash went viral on social media, fueling widespread outrage.
The Darbhanga Rally Controversy
The controversy stems from remarks made at Rahul Gandhi’s rally in Darbhanga, where a man identified as Rizwi Raja allegedly used abusive language against PM Modi and his late mother. Raja had been given stage access by local Congress leader Mohammad Naushad. His statements reportedly inflamed BJP supporters and set the stage for Friday’s showdown in Patna.
BJP Leaders Express Outrage
Senior BJP leaders strongly condemned the incident. Party chief JP Nadda and spokesperson Sambit Patra said the comments crossed all “moral and political limits.” Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath called for a “democratic retaliation,” while LJP leader Chirag Paswan slammed Congress for allowing such behaviour on its platform.
Congress Response and Apology
In response, Congress leader Mohammad Naushad issued a public apology, clarifying that the remarks were “unacceptable” and suggesting the possibility of rival forces being behind the provocation.
Political Tensions in Bihar Ahead of Polls
The violent face-off has further strained political equations in Bihar, where Assembly elections are on the horizon. With both BJP and Congress trading accusations of disrespect and hostility, the episode underscores the rising volatility of political discourse and the potential for unrest during the campaign season.
