A cyclonic circulation currently active over the region has led to unstable weather conditions across Odisha, bringing rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over the past few days.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, the impact of this system is expected to continue, with the possibility of hailstorms in the next 24 hours.
Orange Alert Issued for Four Districts
The weather department has issued an Orange Alert for four districts—Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar—warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and hailstorms within the next 24 hours.
Residents in these districts have been advised to remain cautious due to the risk of sudden weather changes and potential damage from hail and strong winds.
Yellow Alert in 16 Districts
A Yellow Alert has been issued for 16 districts, indicating moderate to heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph.
The districts under Yellow Alert include Sundargarh, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
Rain Likely Till April 4
The Meteorological Department has forecast continued rainfall activity across the state till April 4, with thunderstorms and lightning expected at several places between April 1 and April 3.
Rising Temperatures Amid Rain Activity
Despite the rain, daytime temperatures are expected to rise in the coming days. Over the last 24 hours, Titilagarh recorded the highest temperature at 40.8°C, indicating persistent heat conditions in parts of the state.
Recent Rainfall and Bhubaneswar Weather
In terms of rainfall, Akhuapada in Bhadrak recorded the highest precipitation of 6.6 mm in the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the capital Bhubaneswar is experiencing partly cloudy weather, with temperatures ranging between 27°C and 35°C.
No Major Temperature Change Expected
The Regional Meteorological Centre has stated that there will be no significant change in temperature across Odisha over the next week, even as intermittent rain and thunderstorms continue.
