Collective Responsibility in Education

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has called upon parents and teachers to work together to strengthen a value-based education system that focuses on creating responsible and ethical citizens. Addressing a state-level education conclave, the Chief Minister underlined the need for a collective approach to instill moral values, discipline and social responsibility among students in an era of rapid global change.

Education Beyond Academics

Emphasising that education goes far beyond textbooks and examinations, Majhi said the true purpose of learning lies in character-building. He urged parents to play an active role in the holistic development of their children, noting that schools alone cannot shape values.

The Chief Minister also stressed that educators must act as mentors and guides, encouraging critical thinking and ethical behaviour rather than limiting their role to academic instruction.

Integrating Culture and Regional Values

Highlighting Odisha’s rich cultural heritage, Majhi called for the integration of cultural and regional values into the education curriculum. He said such an approach would help students stay rooted in tradition while adapting to modern challenges, ensuring a balanced blend of contemporary knowledge and traditional wisdom.

Educators Welcome the Vision

The Chief Minister’s address drew a positive response from educators attending the conclave. Anita Sahoo, a school principal, said the emphasis on balancing modern education with age-old values aligned with ongoing efforts to nurture well-rounded individuals.

Many participants echoed the view that moral education and discipline are essential to preparing students for real-world challenges.

Advice on Screen Time and Reading Habits

Majhi also flagged concerns over excessive screen time among children. He advised parents to regulate digital exposure and encourage reading habits, stating that reading plays a crucial role in cognitive development, imagination and emotional intelligence.

Focus on Inclusive and Practical Reforms

The conclave, attended by over 500 educators and parents, also witnessed discussions on making education more inclusive and practical. The Chief Minister reiterated the state government’s commitment to improving school infrastructure and strengthening teacher training to ensure quality education reaches every corner of Odisha.

A Wake-Up Call for the Education System

Majhi’s call for value-based education has sparked wider discussions among stakeholders, with many expressing optimism that such initiatives could transform the state’s education system. As Odisha continues on its path of development, the Chief Minister reminded that education remains the foundation of any prosperous society.
