Severe Storm Hits Multiple Districts

Several parts of Odisha witnessed severe Kalbaisakhi storms on Friday, causing widespread damage in districts including Khordha, Puri, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj. The storm disrupted normal life, uprooting trees and damaging infrastructure across affected regions.

One Fatality Reported in Mayurbhanj

A tragic incident was reported from Kuliana in Mayurbhanj district, where a man identified as Ram Das Hansda lost his life after being struck by a falling tree branch during the storm.

Prolonged Storm in Khordha’s Tangi Block

In Khordha’s Tangi block, the Kalbaisakhi storm lasted for nearly three hours, causing extensive damage. Strong winds uprooted several trees, bringing traffic and daily activities to a standstill in the region.

Weather Warning Issued for Coastal and Northern Odisha

Yellow Alert for Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms

The regional meteorological department has issued a yellow warning for several districts, including Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj. These areas are likely to experience heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and strong winds over the next few hours.

Wind Speeds May Reach Up to 60 kmph

Wind speeds are expected to range between 30–40 kmph in most areas, while Mayurbhanj may witness stronger gusts of 50–60 kmph. Northern Odisha is also likely to experience winds of 40–50 kmph, prompting authorities to issue safety advisories.

Continued Rainfall Forecast for Coming Days

Scattered rainfall is expected in Keonjhar and Sundargarh, while light to moderate showers are likely in several other parts of the state. The weather department has also forecast thunderstorms with lightning in Mayurbhanj, Koraput, and Malkangiri on the 29th, and in districts like Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, and Rayagada on the 30th.

Heatwave Conditions Grip Western Odisha

Rising Temperatures Across Districts

While parts of Odisha faced storms, western regions experienced intense heat conditions. Titlagarh recorded a maximum temperature of 39.5°C, while Sambalpur touched 39.3°C. Other areas such as Jharsuguda, Hirakud, Sonepur, and Bhawanipatna recorded temperatures around 39°C.

High Temperatures in Several Cities

Temperatures remained above 38°C in districts including Angul, Rourkela, Nabarangpur, and Talcher. Meanwhile, cities like Bhubaneswar, Balangir, Nuapada, Chandbali, Bhadrak, Baripada, and Sundargarh recorded temperatures exceeding 37°C.

With thunderstorms in some regions and extreme heat in others, Odisha is witnessing highly fluctuating weather conditions. The meteorological department has advised people to remain cautious amid ongoing weather instability.
