Theft at Anganwadi Turns Into Comedy Scene
In a peculiar incident straight out of a comedy script, a crow in Thrissur’s Mathilakam swooped down and stole a gold chain worth ₹3.5 lakh from a worker, only for the theft to end with the chain’s safe return after a street-side chase. The bizarre episode took place on August 13 at Anganwadi number 77 in Kudukkuvalav.
Swift Theft and Quick Reaction
Shirley Thomas, who was cleaning the Anganwadi yard, had removed her gold chain and placed it on the steps next to some food. Within moments, a crow appeared, ignored the food, and flew away with the glittering ornament in its beak. Startled, Shirley shouted for help and ran after the bird.
A Well-Timed Rescue
The crow flew towards an area with trees and a waterfall before perching on a nearby tree. Seizing the moment, a local threw a stone at the bird, prompting it to drop the chain and fly away. With the help of bystanders, Shirley quickly recovered her precious jewellery, relieved and grateful for the unexpected rescue.
Not the First Gold-Loving Crow in Kerala
Incidents of crows stealing shiny objects are not new in the state. In a similar case in Kozhikode, a crow made off with a woman’s gold bangle from her yard. Experts note that the birds are naturally attracted to bright, reflective items.
A Local Tale of Laughter and Luck
The Mathilakam crow caper has left locals amused and impressed by the birds’ intelligence. For Shirley, the return of her chain felt like a small miracle—proof that quick thinking and community help can foil even the craftiest of winged thieves.
