Government Sets Ambitious Target for Farmer Development

In the recent session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister K. V. Singhdeo announced the state government’s plan to raise farmers’ monthly income to Rs. 12,000 by 2036. The initiative is part of the government’s broader vision of a developed Odisha, with full-fledged farmer development forming the backbone of the state’s economy.

Minister Singhdeo cited NSSO data, which recorded the average monthly income of farmer households in Odisha at Rs. 5,112 in 2018-19, highlighting the ambitious nature of the government’s target.

Zero Farmer Suicides Reported in 2024-25

Responding to a question from Congress MLA Sagar Charan Das, Singhdeo confirmed that no farmer suicides were reported in Odisha in the year 2024-25. The minister clarified that there have been no cases linked to financial distress, farming loans, or debt-related issues under the current administration.

This milestone reinforces the government’s commitment to farmer welfare and addressing concerns related to financial hardships in the agricultural sector.
