Mohan Majhi’s Vision for Education: Tackling Dropouts and Quality with Bold Reforms in Odisha
Odisha Chief Minister Regularises 13,000 Junior Teachers on Teacher’s Day
On the occasion of Teacher’s Day, over a hundred junior teachers from across Odisha gathered at the state guest house to express their gratitude to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi for announcing the regularisation of more than 13,000 schematic junior teachers by 2025. The move has been hailed as a major step towards empowering educators and enhancing the quality of primary education in the state.
Teachers Express Appreciation
Organised by the Odisha Junior Teachers Association, the meeting saw teachers not only convey their thanks but also acknowledge the government’s emphasis on strengthening primary education. During the interaction, CM Majhi encouraged teachers to face challenges as opportunities and reminded them of their pivotal role in shaping young minds.
State-Level Teacher Celebrations
The festivities continued at the Lok Seva Bhawan convention centre, where Majhi honoured Bharat Ratna Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the former President and eminent philosopher-educator. The Chief Minister described Radhakrishnan as a role model for students and teachers alike, praising him as both a scholar-statesman and one of India’s greatest gurus.
Focus on Reducing Dropouts and Enhancing Quality Education
Addressing educators, Majhi highlighted two priorities:
-
Reducing student dropouts to the minimum.
-
Providing quality education to all children.
He cited the midday meal programme, now expanded to Class 10, as a successful initiative that keeps students healthy and motivated to attend school. Additionally, the Madho Singh pocket money scheme for tribal students provides extra support, further helping to curb dropout rates.
Holistic Education Through New Policies
The state has introduced a new education policy aimed at holistic, quality learning. Majhi expressed confidence that these initiatives will bear fruit, creating a brighter future for students through inclusive and effective schooling.
Teachers at the Forefront of Educational Reforms
This announcement aligns with Odisha’s broader campaign to reform its education sector, positioning teachers as key agents of change. The regularisation of junior teachers is expected to provide job security and motivation, ultimately benefiting thousands of students across the state.
