Heatwave Grips Odisha, Rain and Thunderstorm Likely for Next 5 Days

Amid rising heat and humid conditions, weather across Odisha remains unstable with intermittent cloud cover. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has forecast rain and thunderstorms over the next five days due to an active cyclonic circulation.

Cyclonic Circulation to Trigger Rainfall

According to the India Meteorological Department, a cyclonic circulation over North Odisha and adjoining regions is influencing the weather pattern. Under its impact, several parts of the state are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder, lightning, and gusty winds.

Yellow Warning Issued for 4 Districts

For the next 24 hours, districts like Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar are likely to witness thunderstorms with lightning and light to moderate rain.

The weather department has issued a Yellow Warning, cautioning about gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 km/h along with lightning activity. Similar conditions may persist till April 2 in several districts.

Temperature Set to Rise Further

Despite the possibility of rain, heatwave conditions continue to intensify, especially in western Odisha. Cities like Titlagarh have already recorded temperatures crossing 40°C.

The IMD has predicted that temperatures may rise further by 2–3°C over the next two days, potentially touching 42–43°C in several regions.

Coastal vs Western Odisha Temperature Trends

Coastal cities including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Balasore, and Bhadrak are expected to record maximum temperatures between 38°C and 39°C.

Meanwhile, interior and western districts such as Nabarangpur, Bhawanipatna, Titlagarh, Nuapada, Balangir, Sonepur, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Angul, Sundargarh, and Rourkela are likely to see temperatures exceeding 40°C.

The Meteorological Department has advised people across the state to remain cautious amid rising temperatures and thunderstorm activity. Residents are urged to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses and stay safe during lightning and strong winds.

While rainfall may bring temporary relief from the scorching heat, the overall temperature trend remains upward. The coming days are expected to witness a mix of heatwave conditions and sudden weather changes, keeping residents on alert.
