Police Conduct Raids Across Three Jails in Sambalpur District

In a major law enforcement operation, the police conducted raids across three major jails in Sambalpur district, targeting illegal activities and contraband inside the facilities. The action comes amid allegations of illicit substance usage and the presence of objectionable materials within prison premises.

Raids Conducted in Key Jails

The raids took place simultaneously in Sambalpur Central Jail, Kuchinda Sub-Jail, and Rengali Jail. Under the supervision of senior Sambalpur police officials, teams inspected every cell, ward, and common area, including latrines, to ensure no illegal or hazardous items were stored.

Sambalpur police confirmed that no narcotics, mobile phones, or other contraband were found during the operation.

High-Level Police Participation

The operation involved a significant deployment of personnel, including the Sambalpur District Sub-Collector, additional SPs, SDPOs, 8 police station in-charges, 18 sub-inspectors, and a platoon of police force.

Similarly, Kuchinda Sub-Jail was thoroughly inspected for illegal substance use and other prohibited items under the leadership of the SDPO. Magistrate Lochan Sabra was present to oversee the raids.

Efforts to Curb Criminal Activities

Sambalpur police emphasized that these operations form part of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order and prevent criminal activities. Over the past year, police have carried out six encounters, resulting in injuries to seven individuals.

• March 4, 2025 – Encounter with criminal Mahesh Kumar in Jamadarpali area.
• March 11, 2025 – Action against cattle mafia Sheikh Monto Hak and Sheikh Arif in Gorumahisani.
• April 13, 2025 – Encounter with notorious criminal Sitaram Sadangi in Kuchinda.
• August 18, 2025 – Encounter with criminal Mohammad Samad in Dhanupali.
• September 16, 2025 – Encounter with criminal Deepak Manta in Rengali.
• September 18, 2025 – Encounter with criminal Dhaneswar Jhankar in Dumchali Jungle, Redhakhol.
