MPs and MLAs can now recommend the transfer of up to 15 teachers. In a move to enhance the powers of legislators and MPs, the Odisha government has allowed each MLA and MP to recommend transfers of up to 15 teachers within their respective constituencies. These recommended transfers will be implemented between May 15 and June.

The Odisha government on Tuesday appointed IAS officer Uday Narayan Das and Mihir Prasad Mishra, Principal of SCS College, Puri, as members of the Odisha Public Service Commission. Uday Narayan is currently serving as the Director of Census Operations. According to a notification from the General Administration Department, these appointments will be effective for six years or until they reach the age of 62, whichever comes first.

Ganjam Police has arrested 20 criminals from the police station areas of Polsara, Asika, Kotingada, and Hinjili. They seized 8 guns, 31 live bullets, and 12 empty cartridges. Under the leadership of SP Shubendu Kumar Patra, a special police team was formed to curb crime and illegal arms in the district. During a previous operation on the 4th, 18 criminals were arrested and 17 guns and 66 bullets were seized.

The southwest monsoon has touched the Andaman Sea. It has advanced into parts of the southern Bay of Bengal, southern Andaman Sea, Nicobar Islands, and northern Andaman Sea. In the last 24 hours, heavy rainfall has occurred in some parts of the Nicobar Islands. Wind speed and atmospheric depth have increased significantly in parts of the southern Bay of Bengal, Nicobar Islands, and Andaman Sea over the past two days.

A meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), chaired by the Prime Minister, was held. Following the success of Operation Sindoor, this was the first such meeting called by Prime Minister Modi. Former Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar has been appointed as the Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The position was vacant after Preeti Sudan’s tenure ended. Following the proposal by the central government and approval by President Droupadi Murmu, Ajay Kumar has taken charge. A 1985 batch retired IAS officer of the Kerala cadre, Ajay Kumar served as Defence Secretary from August 23, 2019, to October 31, 2022.

After retiring from Test cricket, Virat Kohli visited spiritual leader Premanand Maharaj in Vrindavan along with his wife Anushka Sharma.
