Uniform Policy Implemented for Freshers
Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla, has announced that all first-year students in the 2025-26 academic session will be required to wear uniforms — a first in the institution’s history. The directive aims to bring uniformity, enhance professionalism, and ensure campus safety.
Dress Code Specifications
According to the guidelines, male students must wear shirts and dress pants, while female students are required to wear salwar kameez paired with an overcoat. The administration has prohibited chunnis or dupattas for female students citing security reasons. Jeans are banned for all students. Approved uniform colors include navy blue for waistcoats and salwars, and light blue for shirts.
Implementation Timeline and Exemptions
The rule will not apply to postgraduate and PhD students. The university has directed that all first-year students must obtain their uniforms by August 31, 2025.
University’s Rationale
A VSSUT spokesperson stated that the policy is designed to foster unity, promote inclusivity, and instill a professional mindset in students, better preparing them for the workplace. “It will create a cohesive environment on campus,” the spokesperson added.
Mixed Reactions from Students
While some students have welcomed the move, seeing it as a step towards discipline and order, others have expressed concerns over costs and the potential loss of personal expression. The wider community awaits to see how the new regulation will shape the campus culture at VSSUT.
