76th Odisha State Police Hockey Championship Begins at Kalinga Stadium
360 players from 18 police teams to compete at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar till September 25
The 76th Odisha State Police Hockey Championship 2026 began at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Monday. Former IPS officer and adviser to the Odisha Chief Minister, Prakash Mishra, inaugurated the championship as the chief guest.
Focus on Hockey and Team Spirit
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Mishra highlighted Odisha’s contribution to the growth and popularity of Indian hockey. He also noted the continued support for the Indian national hockey team and said the presence of “Odisha” on the team’s jersey is a matter of pride for the people of the state.
He also highlighted the Odisha Police women’s hockey team’s third-place finish in the All India Police Hockey Tournament and expressed hope that both the men’s and women’s teams would achieve further success.
Mishra said such competitions help police personnel develop confidence, discipline and team spirit. Participation by players from different districts, ranges and battalions would also strengthen coordination and cooperation within the police department, he added.
18 Teams Take Part
A total of 360 players representing 18 police teams from different ranges and battalions across Odisha are participating in the championship. The tournament will continue till September 25.
Opening-Day Results
On the opening day, Commissionerate-B defeated Koraput district 6-0, while Berhampur district beat OSAP 8th Battalion, Chhatrapur, 3-1.
In another match, 4th IR Battalion, Deogarh defeated OSAP 3rd Battalion, Koraput, 4-2 in a penalty shootout. OSAP 4th Battalion, Rourkela defeated OISF, Bhubaneswar, 4-0.
Several senior police officers attended the inaugural ceremony.
