Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan Reviews Preparations for Jagannath Rath Yatra and Associated Festivals

A high-level review meeting was held in Bhubaneswar under the chairmanship of Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan to discuss the smooth and disciplined conduct of the upcoming Rath Yatra and related festivals of Lord Jagannath in Puri.

The meeting focused on ensuring proper management and coordination for all major rituals and events starting from Snana Yatra to Niladri Bije.

Emphasis on Discipline and Coordination During Festivals

Addressing the meeting at the State Guest House, Minister Harichandan said that every festival and ritual associated with Lord Jagannath is deeply connected with the emotions and faith of devotees across Odisha and around the world.

He stressed the need for coordinated efforts among all government departments, district administration, police authorities, servitors, and Nijogs to ensure the disciplined organisation of:

  • Snana Yatra
  • Rath Yatra
  • Adapa Mandap Bije
  • Bahuda Yatra
  • Suna Besha
  • Adharapana
  • Niladri Bije

The minister stated that maintaining discipline, security, and smooth execution of rituals would be the top priority this year.

Discussion on Crowd Management and Devotee Safety

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held with representatives of the temple administration, district administration, police officials, and members of the Daitapati Nijog regarding various aspects of Rath Yatra management.

Key issues discussed included:

  • Timely conduct of rituals and Pahandi procession
  • Smooth chariot pulling arrangements
  • Crowd management measures
  • Security arrangements
  • Devotee convenience and darshan management
  • Advance information regarding ritual schedules
  • Special barricading at sensitive locations
  • Awareness and coordination among servitors and police personnel

Officials emphasised the importance of proper planning to avoid inconvenience to devotees during the grand festival.

Temple Administration Shares Update on Preparations

Chief Administrator of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration, Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee, informed the meeting about the preparations already undertaken for the festival.

He said arrangements related to chariot wood, ropes, chariot cloth, incense materials, sandalwood, and other ritual items required for the ceremonies have been adequately stocked and organised.

The meeting was attended by several senior officials and representatives, including:

  • Dr. Pabitra Mohan Samal, Principal Secretary of Law Department
  • Puri Collector Divyajyoti Parida
  • Puri SP Prateek Singh
  • Daitapati Nijog President Ganesh Das Mohapatra
  • General Secretary Ramakrishna Das Mohapatra

Senior officers from the Law Department, Puri district administration, and members of the Daitapati Nijog were also present during the discussions.

Government Focuses on Peaceful and Well-Managed Rath Yatra

The Odisha Government has intensified preparations to ensure peaceful, secure, and disciplined conduct of this year’s Rath Yatra, which attracts lakhs of devotees from across India and abroad every year.

Authorities said coordinated planning, crowd management, and timely execution of rituals would play a crucial role in the successful organisation of the world-famous festival.
