Fourth Consecutive Victory for India
The Indian women’s hockey team continued its impressive run in the FIH Women’s Nations Cup in New Zealand, securing a place in the final with a commanding 6-0 victory over Chile in the semifinal on Saturday.
The win marked India’s fourth consecutive victory in the prestigious tournament, underlining the team’s dominance and title aspirations.
Navneet Kaur and Deepika Shine
India got off to a flying start, displaying aggressive attacking hockey from the opening minutes. Navneet Kaur opened the scoring in the sixth minute by converting India’s first penalty corner of the match.
She doubled India’s lead in the 13th minute after finishing a brilliant pass from captain Salima Tete. Just a minute later, drag-flick specialist Deepika converted another penalty corner to make it 3-0.
Deepika struck again in the 18th minute, successfully converting yet another penalty corner and extending India’s advantage to 4-0 before halftime.
With her two goals, Deepika took her tournament tally to six goals, becoming the leading scorer of the competition.
India Maintain Complete Control
The Indian side continued to dominate after the break. Neha added a fifth goal in the 32nd minute through a penalty corner, leaving Chile with little chance of a comeback.
Seven minutes later, Rutuja Dadaso Pisal produced a brilliant reverse hit from open play to score India’s sixth goal and effectively seal the contest.
Despite a few attacking attempts from Chile in the final quarter, Indian goalkeeper Savita made crucial saves to preserve a clean sheet.
Salima Tete Named Player of the Match
Captain Salima Tete played a key role throughout the match with her outstanding all-round performance and was named Player of the Match.
Her leadership, midfield control and creative passing were instrumental in India’s dominant display.
Final Showdown Awaits
With the emphatic victory, India have booked their place in the final of the FIH Women’s Nations Cup. They will now face the winner of the second semifinal between the United States and host nation New Zealand as they aim to lift the coveted title.
