Low Pressure System Active Over Odisha; Heavy Rain Alert for 8 Districts, Fishermen Advised to Stay Ashore

A low-pressure system remains active over Odisha, bringing widespread rainfall across the state. According to the weather department, the depression that formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining north Odisha–West Bengal coast is currently centred over south Jharkhand and adjoining north interior Odisha.

The system is expected to move west-northwestwards over the next 24 hours, crossing through north Chhattisgarh and south Jharkhand. Under its influence, most parts of Odisha are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall, while several districts may witness heavy to very heavy showers.

Orange Warning for 8 Districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Warning for the next 24 hours for eight districts, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall. These districts are:

  • Bargarh
  • Balangir
  • Nuapada
  • Subarnapur (Sonepur)
  • Sambalpur
  • Jharsuguda
  • Sundargarh
  • Deogarh

Residents in these districts have been advised to remain alert for waterlogging, localized flooding, and disruptions to transportation.

Yellow Alert for 7 Districts

A Yellow Alert has also been issued for the following districts, where heavy rainfall is likely:

  • Nabarangpur
  • Kalahandi
  • Kandhamal
  • Boudh
  • Angul
  • Keonjhar
  • Mayurbhanj

Authorities have urged people living in low-lying and vulnerable areas to remain cautious.

Fishermen Advised Not to Venture into the Sea

In view of the adverse weather conditions, fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea until further notice. Rough sea conditions and strong winds are expected as the weather system remains active.

Above-Normal Rainfall Expected

The active low-pressure system is expected to keep rainfall activity intense over Odisha for the next two days. Meteorologists have indicated that the state is likely to receive above-normal rainfall during this spell, with intermittent heavy showers affecting several regions.

The administration has advised district authorities to stay prepared for any weather-related emergencies and urged citizens to follow official advisories while avoiding unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.
